Additional information

The swimming pool was built by volunteers and filled with water in June 1938. The Youth society of Ölfushreppur were the biggest promoters for the construction of the pool and contributed much effort on the project. Swimmer Lárus Rist moved to Hveragerði in the year 1936, proving to be a great addition, and assumed leadership in bulding the pool, deciding on it's placement among other things. For some time the pool was the largest in the country and the National team trained there until 1966 when Laugardalslaug in Reykjavík was built.

Originally the pool was only 25 meters but is now 50 meters long and 12 meters wide. The pool is a so-called flow through pool and is heated with thermal steam which insures natural acid levels and purity of the water. The pool has a hot and shallow sitting pool along with a hot-tub with electronic massage as well as a natural sauna. The pool has a beautiful enviroment and good shelter. Lifeguards are on duty at all times as well as security cameras monitor and ensure the safety of guests as well as possible.

The town of Hveragerði handles the operation and maintenance of the pool

The Thermal bath Laugaskarð is renowned for its lovely setting as well as excellent facilities, including hot pots, whirlpools, a natural sauna and a fitness center.  The pool is heated with steam coming directly from the ground and because of this many consider the water to be good for your health. The thermal bath is open all year round and was, with it is 50 m length, for years the largest pool in Iceland.

Welcome to The Thermal bath Laugaskarð, it´s surroundings are remarkably beautiful and a unique experience is guaranteed.
